You’ll hear it over and over, and over again. Southern Oregon is a great place to raise a family. There is no excuse for a child to be bored. In addition to all of the outdoor fun they can have in the nearby rivers, lakes and mountains, there are ample year-around opportunities. I came up with 32 and only scratched the surface:

  2. Ashland Art Center 
    The Ashland Art Center has drop-in classes, workshops, and series classes for youth.
  3. Bowling - Lava Lanes and Roxy Ann Lanes 
    Roxy Ann Lanes and Lava Lanes are smoke-free. On Friday nights Lava Lanes has Cosmic Bowling with great music by local DJ’s and special effects lighting.
  4. Boys and Girls Club in Grants Pass , Talent and the Illinois Valley 
    Boys and Girls clubs offer programs for children that build character and leadership, education and careers, health and life skills, the arts, sports and fitness, and other specialized programs.
  5. Children’s Festival 
    The Storytelling Guild presents the Annual Children’s Festival at The Britt Grounds in Jacksonville – July 9-11, 2016. There are over 35 hands-on art, craft, science projects.
  6. Coyote Trails School of Nature 
    Children learn “primitive living skills” from indigenous cultures all around the world. Children are taught a higher level of connection, awareness, self-reliance and confidence outdoors.
  7. Craterian Performances’ Youth Theater Program
    The Teen Musical Theater of Oregon (TMTO) is the youth theater program of Craterian Performances. TMTO shows are professionally-staged, large-scale and high-energy productions.
  8. Emigrant Lake and Water Slides 
    Refreshing summer fun can be found in the park’s 280-foot twin flume water slide. The slide offers dressing rooms, showers, restrooms, picnic tables and a concession stand.
  9. Frog O’Faire Children’s Festival in Grants Pass 
    This year the FREE event will be held Saturday,  June 18, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. — crafts, science project, face painting, and tours of an ambulance and the Pacifica Caterpillar bus.
  10. Hanley Farm
    Hanley Farm offers children’s education opportunities, camps, fairs and private tours of its working farm committed to ecologically healthy and sustainable farming methods.
  11. Hockey
    The RRRink is the home of the fastest-growing youth hockey program in Oregon. Boys and girls of all ages enjoy the fast-paced action and the friendly competitive environment.
  12. Ice Skating
    The  RRRink is a 37500 sq.ft. ice skating arena. Open to the public.
  13. Jackson County Library Programs 
    The Jackson County Library offers programs for youth throughout its 15 locations in the valley. Hours vary.
  14. Josephine Community Libraries Programs 
    Josephine Community Libraries, Inc. (JCLI) have several locations and offer programs for children of all ages, including a summer reading program.
  15. Kid Time! Discovery Experience 
    Kid Time! is a hands-on discovery space that stimulates brain development in young children, provides a fun yet educational experience, and promotes positive relationships among families.
  16. Kids Unlimited 
    Kids Unlimited provides after school and summer programs to students K-12. that incorporate sports, arts, music, culinary arts, film, robotics, leadership, science and gardening.
  17. Medford Parks and Recreation Youth Programs
    Medford Parks and Recreation Programs include preschool programs, spring break camp, Medford Adventure Club, sports, arts and more! A current guide can be found here.
  18. Medford Railroad Park 
    Park attractions include: full size cars, a caboose, a hopper car, Medco's "Four Spot" Willamette Locomotive, HO Scale Track/Trains in the clubhouse, a working telegraph system.
  19. Mt. Ashland 
    Mt.  Ashland Ski Area offers skiing and snowboarding on 220 acres, with five chair lifts and 23 runs. They have a full rental shop, retail shop and ski school, full service cafe and bar.
  20. Oregon Conservatory of Performing Arts 
    Oregon Conservatory of Performing Arts teaches the process of theatre — from understanding the text and its social context to rehearsing and staging a show.
  21. Rogue Gallery & Art Center 
    Beginning in the 1990s, Rogue Gallery & Art Center (RGAC) started introducing children to the wonders of art. RGAC offers diverse classes and workshops year round for children.
  22. Rogue Rock Gym 
    The Rogue Rock Gym has programs for children ages 7 to 14. All skill levels welcome.
  23. Rogue Valley Family Fun Center
    The Rogue Valley Family Fun Center features an arcade, mini golf, go-karts, playhouse, bumper boats and batting cages.

    Youth for Christ connects with young people in our community through programs  that mobilize responsible caring adults to be engaged in authentic relationships with kids.
  25. Sanctuary One 
    Sanctuary One provides a safe home and rehabilitation to rescued farm animals and house pets that are elderly, disabled, chronically ill and emotionally traumatized.

    ScienceWorks is a fun, engaging science center that features interactive exhibits, an outdoor garden, live science shows and dynamic programs year-round.

    Wildlife Images Rehabilitation and Education Center provides for the care and treatment of sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. They also host tours, educational and summer camp programs.
  30. Wildlife Safari 
    Field trips, Junior Zookeeper Explorer Program, day camps, overnight safari camps, tours…oh my! This Drive thru wild animal park on 600 acres is home to over 76 Species.
  31. YMCA in Medford, Ashland and Grants Pass 
    The YMCA has recreational programs & services for all ages. The organizations offer day camps and summer camps, after school and sports programs.
  32. Zip lining 
    Rogue Valley ZipLine Adventure provides guided zip line tours on a progressive five zip line course with many spectacular views.
